After two fantastic contests in the ongoing ODI series between India and West Indies, the decider at Cuttack proved to be an icing on the cake. Going through many seesaw moments, the match finally saw India emerging victorious by 4 wickets to claim the ODI series 2-1.
However, it would be harsh to ignore the prowess of West Indian wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran who continued his sparkling batting form. Coming to bat in the 30th over when West Indies was struggling at 132-3, Pooran changed the face of the game with his aggressive batting.
The 24-year old cricketer went after the Indian bowlers to push his side back in the game. Doing so, he recorded an elite batting outing by scoring 89 runs using only 64 balls. Pooran struck 10 fours and 3 sixes to show his prowess and form a crucial 135-run stand with skipper Kieron Pollard.
However, it all went in vain as Virat Kohli led India chased the tough total of 315 inside 49 overs to win the series. Things started to swing towards tourists when Virat Kohli was dismissed, but Shardul Thakur’s cameo, encompassing 17 runs off 6 balls, aided the men in blue to register yet another series victory at home.
