Gone are those days when Indian pacers used to get smashed all the time. These days, India’s quicks strike fear in minds of many and this is also reflected in the ODI bowling charts of 2019. It is both interesting and heartening to see fast-bowler Mohammed Shami bossing the list of the highest wicket-takers of ODIs in 2019.
Playing 21 games in this year, Shami picked 42 wickets at an average of 22.64. This allowed him to beat the likes of Trent Boult, Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins and Shaheen Afridi despite all of them having great years. It is important to note that he also played a pivotal role in helping India reach the semi-final stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament.
The 29-year old cricketer featured in only 4 games of the 50-over competition, but claimed 14 wickets to record his prowess. Even in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies, Shami was prodigious in Visakhapatnam game where he delivered a strong show to help India claim victory in a must-win game. With all this on his resume, India would hope to see Shami continuing his laudable show in 2020.
