Stoppages during cricket matches are not rare occurrences but disturbances off the field causing disruption of the proceedings is certainly uncommon. One such incident took place during the opening day of the Boxing Day Test between England and South Africa where an injury to a photographer delayed the start of the game.
Local photojournalist Christiaan Kotze was engaged in his assignment walking in front of the sightscreen while capturing some pre-play images before unfortunately tripping over the boundary rope. He winced in pain and required medical treatment on the spot as he had to be carried away on a stretcher.
The incident delayed the start of match by several minutes and might have even caused a loss of concentration for South Africa batter Dean Elgar, who was dismissed on the first delivery. “I hope I didn’t cause Dean Elgar to lose concentration,” Kotze was later quoted as saying.
