Mitchell Swepson, the leg-spinner has been added to the Australia’s squad for the 3rd Test match against New Zealand. Despite Australia’s dominance in the 1st Test match and the 4 main bowlers doing a great job for the team, the selectors have opted for an additional option.
Swepson has played one T20I for Australia against England last year, and was part of the Test squads for the tours of India and Bangladesh in 2017, but is uncapped in the longest format. The 26-year-old found favor thanks to his 12 wickets from six Sheffield Shield games for Queensland at 26.58. Last month against Victoria, he had match figures of 7/92.
Australia’s selector Trevor Hohns is of the view that Swepson presence will provide them with an extra option of spin as the conditions of Sydney demand. However, the final assessments will be made when the team reaches Sydney for the 3rd Test match.
