Australia head coach Justin Langer has made the bold statement of declaring Tim Paine as the best wicket-keeper currently in world cricket. The Aussie Test skipper has received the backing of Langer in the wake of constant criticism on Paine’s lack of batting charisma given his miserly average in Test cricket.
"I said at the start of the summer, he's almost our most important player, because he's a very good leader, his captaincy is excellent, he's the best wicket-keeper in the world and he's as fit as anyone in the group,” Langer told reporters.
Paine recently struck a vital half-century against New Zealand, reasserting his batting credentials. Meanwhile, Langer has also backed Paine to continue to lead the side despite murmurs regarding the return of Steve Smith in the captaincy role.
“I hope he plays for as long as he possibly can because his leadership has been brilliant, working with the leadership group, I love working with him,” he added.
