The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently floated the idea of introducing mandatory four-day Tests by 2023. This option is being mulled over as a way of easing the burden on players by freeing up days in the cricketing calendar.
While ICC’s proposal has garnered support from some member boards, a lot of current and former cricketers are not too keen on the implementation of this innovation. Pakistan spin wizard Saeed Ajmal has vocally opposed the idea of four-day Tests and advocated the continuation of the purist form of five-day cricket.
"Reducing Tests by a day could hurt the format. Sponsors are also not going to be keen with this idea. ICC should try to maintain the traditional beauty of Test cricket. The real essence of cricket is Test matches & it should be maintained in its true form," he said.
