Sacked Sri Lanka coach Chandika Hathurusingha has demanded USD 5 million as compensation from the country’s cricket board. “He has sent a letter of demand asking for 5 million,” Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary Mohan de Silva said.
Hathurusingha wrote a letter, the contents of which are not fully available to the media yet, whereby he has sought compensation for the premature termination of his contract. The former Sri Lanka Test star was forced out of his coaching job following the team’s shambolic performance in the ICC World Cup in England and Wales.
With Mickey Arthur appointed as the new Sri Lanka coach, Hathurusingha has claimed his reputation as an international coach took a hit due to his unceremonious dismissal and has demanded USD 5 million as part of the damages including the salary owed to him by SLC.
