Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis got in trouble after he launched a homophobic slur on his counter-part Kane Richardson during the Big Bash League (BBL) game. Stoinis was fined a hefty amount after he breached Cricket Australia’s code of conduct.
Stoinis, talking about the incident, said that he got into the heat of the moment and he immediately apologized from Kane Richardson. This is not the first time that an Australian player has been caught in this controversy in recent past.
James Pattinson was also suspended for one game after he carried out a similar crime 6 weeks ago. His penalty was harsher than Stoinis’ as it was his 3rd breaching in the past 18 months. Cricket Australia’s authorities have been concerned about these activities as the situation has not improved.
Test cricketer Simon Katich questioned whether CA has taken appropriate steps to stamp out this unacceptable behavior as this was the 2nd incident of the summer. He also feels that financial punishment might not be the solution to this problem.
