Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir became the latest to join the bandwagon of cricketers who criticized ICC’s proposal of 4-Day Test matches. ICC put forward a proposal of shortening the longest format of the game by 1 day and implementing the plan from 2023 onwards.
However, ICC faced a serious backlash on this idea from the former cricketers. Gambhir also termed this idea as “ridiculous”. He feels that this idea will draw out the charm from the game and will make spinners ineffective as their will be no play on the wearing 5th day wicket.
He said that it will enhance the chances of draws in Test matches and will deteriorate the balance between bat and the ball. Gambhir also liked the idea proposed by Mark Waugh to scrap out leg-byes rule and said that it was a good suggestion given after a long time.
