The first round of fitness test of centrally contracted players was conducted on 6th January 2020. According to the reports, only 10 players appeared in the first round and went under fitness test.
Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, and Shadab Khan were given re-scheduled dates courtesy their participation in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Pakistan’s Test captain Azhar Ali, middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq, and the wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan were also absent as they are suffering from viral infection.
On the other hand, Fakhar Zaman and Hassan Ali are waiting for medical clearance before they can participate in the test. Hassan Ali is currently under a rehabilitation process as x-ray confirmed a fractured rib. While Zaman is also suffering from back problems. Misbah-ul-Haq who is the head coach and chief selector of the national team made it mandatory for the players to pass the fitness test otherwise they will have their salaries cut down by 15%.
