Dom Sibley made his maiden Test century for England in the second Test match against South Africa but this individual feat is not the only achievement by the young opening batsman. Apparently, Sibley’s progression to the England national side had already scooped his family USD 28,500 in bizarre circumstances.

It has been revealed that Sibley’s late grandfather Kenneth MacKenzie had placed a bet on his teenage grandson back in 2011 that he would one day play for England at the highest level. Although MacKenzie passed away soon after making that bet, his prediction was proven true as Sibley donned the national jersey for the very first time against New Zealand last year.
His family will now pocket the huge posthumous payout and reap the benefits of his grandfather’s astute prediction. “He’d have been so proud of Dom’s achievement, so watching him was tinged with sadness, but he’d also have been delighted at pulling off the bet at massive odds,” - Sibley’s mother said in an interview.
