Former Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat has advised the national team’s selectors to not rush towards picking Haris Rauf for international assignments. Rauf recently enacted a hat-trick in addition to a spate of sizzling performances in the Big Bash League, causing fans to call on the Pakistan selectors to fast-track him into the side.
However, Arafat believes Rauf still needs to excel in domestic cricket in the longer formats in order to get a place in the Test and ODI teams. He stated Rauf’s arrival in the limited-overs setup would hinge upon his Pakistan Super League (PSL) performance.
“I am sure the selectors will be keeping a keen eye on his performances and he will be a good choice for Pakistan in Twenty20s, if he does well in that tournament,” he said.
“I will at this point sound a note of warning and say that we should not be carried away with his current performances and ability to bowl fast and that he should be only given a chance in ODIs or Tests if he performs well in domestic cricket,” Arafat added.
