Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has named bowling greats Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar as the best and the quickest fast bowlers respectively he faced during his long and illustrious career. The World Cup-winning captain was engaged in a Q/A session with fans on Twitter where a fan popped a question about which bowlers Ponting did not like facing.
Reacting to the query, the 45-year-old said that Akram and West Indies’ Curtly Ambrose were the most intimidating fast bowlers while Akhtar was the quickest of the lot. However, he admitted that Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh dismissed him the most number of times.
Ponting’s admiration of Akram and Akhtar is a testament to Pakistan’s esteemed pace bowling legacy, though lately the prominent right-handed batsman has criticized the current crop of Pakistani bowlers. The cricketer-turned-commentator called Pakistan’s inexperienced bowling attack as one of the worst he’s seen on Australian shores amidst their tour.
