Ponting and Warne to captain teams in bushfire charity match

Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne will be leading opposing teams in a charity match to raise money for the bushfire relief efforts currently underway in Australia. The match will serve as a curtain-raiser for the Big Bash League final on February 8 and is one of the three matches on that fateful day alongside Australia women’s T20 game against India.

All match profits and funds from the high-profile encounter will go to the bushfire appeal. Star-studded lineups are expected to feature in the exhibition match. The players include Australia head coach Justin Langer, former captain Michael Clarke, Brett Lee, Adam Gilchrist and ex-Australia Women's player Alex Blackwell.

Spin wizard Warne himself has been engaged in raising for the relief fund as he auctioned off his coveted baggy green cap for over one million Australian dollars. The bushfire tragedy has ravaged ten million hectares of land and led to the loss of lives of millions of animals, pushing a few species on the brink of extinction.
