Malinga likely to be sacked as Sri Lanka’s T20I captain

Sri Lanka’s veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga is reported to be sacked from Sri Lanka’s T20I captaincy role. Dasun Shanaka is expected to replace him as the T20I captain with immediate effect. Sri Lanka’s humiliating defeat against India in the T20I series is forcing the Sri Lankan cricket authorities to make an arduous decision.

Dasun Shanaka did a great job for Sri Lanka in the T20I series against Pakistan when the visitors white-washed the number one ranked T20I team at their own backyard. Malinga’s inability to bring the players together as a unit has become another concern for the Islanders.

With the ICC T20 World Cup just a few months away, Sri Lanka has to make the decision quickly and effectively. Malinga has shown no signs of retirement from the shortest format of the game, however; his sacking from the captaincy might force the veteran fast bowler to rethink his decision.
