Sri Lanka’s swashbuckling batsman Kusal Perera has lost his spot in the Test side after his name was omitted from the squad selected for the series against Zimbabwe. Perera’s exclusion has been deemed as surprising by many including former skipper Mahela Jayawardene, who expressed his thoughts on Twitter.
Jayawardene was infuriated by the fact that Perera got only three Test matches following his stunning heroics in Durban last year. The left-handed batsman struck a knock for the ages when he unleashed a blistering charge against South Africa to haul Sri Lanka past the finishing line by just one wicket.
After his stellar performance, Perera was given three more matches with two of them at home against New Zealand where he struggled for form. However, Jayawardene is of the opinion that a match-winner like Perera should have been an automatic pick in the Test unit given his impactful caliber.
