Australia marched to an emphatic 10-wicket win in the first match of three-game ODI series against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The opening pair of David Warner and Aaron Finch combined for an unbeaten 258-run stand to punish the hosts in reply to their modest total on the board.
Australia’s victory by the significant margin has now extended their winning streak in Asia to 9 consecutive ODI triumphs. Interestingly, this is their longest ever winning streak in the continent, signifying their steep progress in the format over the past year.
Australia’s dominant run began with their series win against India in February-March 2019. India were leading the series at one point before losing the last three ODIs on the trot. Australia then completed a whitewash over Pakistan in the five ODIs played in the UAE ahead of the World Cup.
