Rishabh Pant will not be available for the second ODI against Australia after suffering a concussion injury in the first game at the Wankhede Stadium. Pant was struck on the helmet by a rising short ball from Pat Cummins, which coincidentally resulted in his dismissal.
Pant was shaping up to play a pull shot off the back foot but was hurried by the pace of the delivery from Cummins and the ball eventually ricocheted off his helmet to the fielder stationed at point. He did not appear to be impacted by the blow too much and nonchalantly trudged off the field.
Later in the match, KL Rahul performed wicket-keeping duties during the Australian innings. Pant will now travel to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to undergo his rehabilitation protocol. His availability for the final game of the series rests on the progress made by him as part of rehab. It is expected that Rahul will be the designated keeper for India in the second match at Rajkot.
