BCCI announced the central contracts of the Indian players and interestingly MS Dhoni’s name was not included in the list. This decision took the cricket world by surprise as it has started to wonder whether Dhoni will ever make a comeback in the Indian side or not.
However, BCCI officials have clarified that the wicket-keeper batsman was told before-hand that as he has not played any game for India since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, he cannot be given the central contract. But if he somehow, he makes it to the Indian side for the ICC T20 World Cup, then his name might be added back on a pro-rata basis.
BCCI also clarified their policy of awarding central contracts and that is to complete at least 3 Test matches or eight ODIs or playing the stipulated number of T20Is in that given period. The officials also talked about Dhoni’s retirement plans and said that it is up to him and he has the authority to make the decision.
