South Africa’s fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is set to miss the 4th Test match at Johannesburg after being sanctioned for his celebration following the dismissal of Joe Root. Rabada breached ICC Code of Conduct (article 2.5) and he received 1 demerit point making it his 4 active points in total and 8th of his career. The right-arm quick was also fined 15% of his match fees.
The veteran English commentator Michael Vaughan slammed the authorities for handing Rabada with a one-game ban. He feels that a fast bowler is banned from the game for celebrating a wicket while over-rate and slow play are ignored. Vaughan called it “mad stuff” to ban the South African fast bowler for celebrating a wicket.
Nowadays, the bowlers are more vigilant about their celebrations during the heat of the moment. Recently, Melbourne Stars fast bowler Haris Rauf was also under scrutiny for his wicket-celebration during the Big Bash League. However, he apologized before any action was taken against him.
