Former Indian pace bowler Praveen Kumar revealed his struggles with mental health. Praveen, who played 84 International games for India, disclosed that he contemplated suicide a few months ago. Praveen said, “I told myself, what is this? Let's end all this?
Praveen told the local news network that he tried committing suicide but he thought of his children and stopped himself. “I had no one to talk to. I felt constant irritation. As a fast bowler I had to do a lot of thinking and I told my counselor that I cannot just switch off thoughts”, he said.
It has been 8 years since Praveen was last seen in the Indian colors. The fast bowler said that he wanted to be with the Uttar Pardesh Ranji trophy team but he has fled away from his responsibilities for the sake of rehabilitation. The 33-year old fast bowler is hoping for a fresh start in a future.
Praveen had outstanding time in England back in 2011 where he took a fifer at Lord’s. This was his last prominent moment at the International level, “I had been bowling so well. In England, everybody praised me. I was dreaming about a Test career. Suddenly, it all was gone”, he concluded.
