Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag has credited MS Dhoni for Rohit Sharma’s remarkable resurgence since 2013. MS Dhoni backed Rohit Sharma when he was targeted by the fans and media for inconsistent performances and made a career-changing move by giving Rohit an opening slot just prior to the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
Since then, Rohit has been an unstoppable beast for India averaging almost 60 and has scored 27 centuries including 3 double-centuries. In 88 ODIs before the Dhoni’s vital decision, Rohit only averaged 30.82 with an indifferent strike-rate. Sehwag feels that Dhoni had an eye for talent and he is the true architect of making Rohit a great player.
"With MS Dhoni as captain, there was greater clarity with regards to each player's position in the batting unit. He had an eye for talent and had identified individuals who would take Indian cricket forward"- Sehwag added. He also said that the current Indian management might not be as tolerant as was Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
