Pakistan have not selected veteran cricketer Sana Mir as part of the 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia next month. The absence of Mir has been questioned by fans and critics alike given the wealth of experience she possesses.
Mir has represented Pakistan in each of the last six editions of the T20 World Cup but announced a break from international cricket following the home series against Bangladesh last year. She was thus overlooked for selection in the important limited-overs assignment in Malaysia against England recently.
Perhaps in response to the news regarding her axing, Mir penned a rather cryptic tweet implying her relationship with the national team management was not all cordial. The former Pakistan skipper ranks as her country’s second-leading wicket-taker in the shortest format and her absence is expected to leave a huge void in the Pakistan lineup.
