South Africa suffered another loss in the four-match series against England as they crashed to a humiliating defeat by a margin of an innings and 53 runs. This now means that the Proteas have endured seven losses in their last eight games in the longest format.
South Africa’s horrendous form in Test cricket has given birth to doubts over the leadership credentials of Faf du Plessis. Plagued by woeful form with the bat and a dreadful track record as captain over the past tumultuous year, speculations have been ripe with du Plessis’ retirement from the game occurring soon.
However, the incumbent South African skipper has claimed he is not bowing away from international cricket but will remain with the team at least until the T20 World Cup later this year.
"There are a lot of rumours about retirement. I think I have been pretty clear that I have committed myself to Cricket South Africa until the T20 World Cup in Australia” - he said after South Africa’s defeat.
