India’s senior opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of India’s limited-overs leg of the New Zealand tour after sustaining a shoulder injury in the third ODI against Australia. "An MRI of his (Dhawan's) shoulder was conducted, and the results have confirmed a grade II injury of his acromio-clavicular joint" -BCCI.
The flamboyant southpaw has now been replaced with Sanju Samson in the T20I squad with the first game of the five-match series scheduled to take place on January 24. Samson’s call-up to the national side is yet another chance offered to the youngster to consolidate his spot in the team.
The 25-year-old has so far played only two T20Is, one of which was five years ago against Zimbabwe. The wicketkeeper-batsman could make just six runs in his last appearance where he got out right on the second delivery he faced. All eyes will now be pinned on the right-hander to raise his standards of performances in the contests against New Zealand.
