Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik has supported the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to not award him and 39-year-old Mohammad Hafeez a central contract. Malik was withdrawn from the central contract list in August following the conclusion of the World Cup where he endured a torrid run with the bat.
Malik felt his removal from the names mentioned in the central contract signals a positive change since this paves the way for the induction of more youngsters in the national set-up.
“I think it was a good decision by the board to not give Hafeez and me a central contract. Other players are more deserving besides us and I appreciate this decision to focus on youngsters who can play for a longer time than us. I fully back this decision.”- he said.
Questions still linger over the future of Malik in international cricket since he has retired from ODIs and Tests but has made himself available for the shortest format.
