Tom Banton, the rising batting sensation of England, has grabbed the attention of the cricketing world with his superlative shows in the white-ball cricket. After recording his prowess in England’s domestic T20 competition, Banton headed to Big Bash League (BBL) where he struck 3 half-centuries in 7 innings to muster 223 runs at 31.85.
He was also snapped up for more than £100,000 by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of the highly admired Indian Premier League (IPL). However, former English skipper Michael Vaughan advised the budding star to skip the lucrative T20 league as featuring in IPL would force Banton to miss up to 7 County Championship matches.
The cricketing turned commentator said that Banton has the potential to play Test cricket for England. Highlighting a vacancy at 6th spot in English Test side, the 45-year old added that the middle-order batsman Ollie Pope – who just scored a sublime century against South Africa – would not stay at 6 forever and Banton’s strong show in the domestic circuit could earn him a spot in the red-ball team. It is important to note that Banton averages 27.14 in first-class cricket after scoring 570 runs in 21 innings.
