Bangladesh Under-19 stunned hosts South Africa in the quarter-final clash of the ICC U-19 World Cup to set up their semi-final contest against New Zealand. Bangladesh’s young stars completed a comfortable 104-run win over South Africa exemplifying their dominant run.
Bangladesh had topped their group in the initial half of the tournament, though they were lucky to escape with a draw against a rampant Pakistan lineup since incessant rain washed out the match. Against South Africa, Bangladesh were at their sublime best as they overpowered the home team.
Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan and Shahadat Hossain top-scored with half-centuries to lift the team’s total to a formidable 261/5 in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa never looked in charge of the proceedings and lost their way against spinner Rakibul Hasan, who claimed a five-wicket haul.
