George Bailey has retired from professional cricket to become a full-time Australia selector following his team’s loss in the final stages of the Big Bash League (BBL). Hobart Hurricanes were defeated by the clinical Sydney Thunder, who clinched the contest by a significant margin of 57 runs.
Bailey was dismissed for 13 off seven deliveries in his final innings in the 22-yard strip. His dismissal was met by enthusiastic fans, who stood up to usher him back to the pavilion in a sea of raucous applause. While regretting he could not be on the winning side in his cricketing swansong, Bailey felt contented with his glittering career that has also seen him captain Australia on the apex level.
“It’s just the right time. I have been very content with it throughout the season really. This was a bit of a bonus one of it is like John Farnham. I have been copping a lot of flak about having two farewell games”- Bailey said.
