Despite entering the quarter-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup against Afghanistan as favorites, Pakistan’s recent history against the blue team wasn’t ideal. Afghanistan was regularly beating Pakistan and that too by heavy margin, which created an intense rivalry between the two talented sides.
However, the game at Benoni saw the green team returning to their best. Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first. After an impressive start, the boys in green got back in the game by registering regular wickets. The late order showed some resistance, but with all that, Afghanistan managed to score only 189 runs. Mohammad Amir Khan claimed 3 wickets at the expense of 58 runs.
In return, Pakistan bossed the game right from the start. The green team got a bit under pressure when they lost three wickets inside 10 runs to get reduced from 117-1 to 127-4. However, cool heads of Qasim Akram and Mohammad Haris kept the team going as they chased the total inside 42 overs. With this, fans are set for an electrifying semi-final clash between India and Pakistan on February 4 at Potchefstroom.
