Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal last played an international match three years ago and has since then been sidelined from the team mainly due to mediocre fitness standards. Despite being barred from the national setup; Kamran has been consistently churning out heaps of runs in domestic cricket including a spate of sizzling performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
During a recent Q/A session with fans on Twitter, Kamran was asked about his take on the fitness drive in Pakistan, which was introduced under the coaching tenure of Mickey Arthur. Kamran insisted the exaggerated focus on strict fitness regime had forced players to conform to it but he believed natural talent trumped the need to be physically fit.
He was of the view that players should be selected solely based on their performances and skillset rather than meeting a certain fitness criterion.
