The mankad rule has been under scrutiny once again following the dismissal of Pakistan’s Under-19 batsman Mohammad Huraira during the quarter-final game between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Huraira was batting on 64 when he was dismissed by the cunningness of Afghanistan’s chinaman bowler Noor Ahmad.
The cricket world responded abruptly to the incident, however; the opinions were mixed. England’s veteran fast bowler James Anderson also expressed his views regarding this rule. The most successful bowler for England in Test matches has called for the removal of this rule.
Anderson tagged International Cricket Council and MCC in his Tweet and requested them to take an action. Remember, the mankad rule caught the attention of the world when Ravi Ashwin dismissed Jos Buttler in a similar fashion during an Indian Premier League. This rule also faced a lot of backlash from English cricketers back then as they declared it as against the spirit of cricket.
