The Ashes 2019 was a changing point in the cricket career of Marnus Labuschagne, Australia’s middle-order batsman. Steve Smith’s concussion substitution proved to be a blessing in disguise for the right-handed batsman and since then, he has been a prolific player for Australia.
Marnus reminisced over his Ashes stint and revealed Steve Waugh’s remarks following a brutal spell from Jofra Archer at the Lord’s Test. Marnus came out to bat in the 2nd innings of the Test match as a like-for-like substitution for Steve Smith. He went on to score a half-century for his team and helped his team to draw the Test match.
Talking about Waugh’s remarks, Labuschagne said, “After that (Lord’s innings) in Ashes 2019. Steve Waugh said, “Mate if you can get through that, there is nothing harder in Test cricket”. Labuschagne currently averages 63.43 in 14 Test matches he has played for Australia.
