After getting thrashed in the five-game T20I series, New Zealand was expected to come hard in the first ODI of the three-match series. Fortunately, they did so and importantly, they didn’t spill this contest after getting their grip tightened over it.
Powered by batting heroics of Lokesh Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, India posted a mammoth total of 347 runs on the board. However, Kiwis were found equal to the task as Ross Taylor’s unbeaten century and contributions from Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls helped the hosts win the game by 4 wickets with 11 balls to spare.
While it was a disappointing bowling day for the men in blue, rising batting sensation Shreyas Iyer was found in great touch. Showcasing his talent and ability, the 25-year old mustered his debut ODI century.
He scored 103 runs consuming only 107 balls as he registered 11 fours and a solitary six to produce a memorable knock. To his dismay, it all ended in vain as Blackcaps were witnessed putting their best game forward to boss the Hamilton ODI and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
