Bushfire Bash raises over USD 7.7 million funds

A prestigious moment was celebrated in Australia as the cricketing legends across the globe gathered to feature in a T20 game. The contest was nothing more than a charity match to raise funds for victims of recent Bushfire victims. At the Junction Oval in Melbourne, the two sides, captained by Australian greats Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting, featured in an enthralling game.

Ponting XI batted first to score 104 runs in the allotted 10 overs. Skipper Ponting mustered 26 runs, but Brian Lara garnered everyone’s attention by recreating the old magic. The batting genius registered a quick-fire knock of 30 runs, using only 11 balls. In response, Gilchrist XI got off to a sensational start as they scored 47 runs in 3 overs.

However, a series of dismissals halted their scoring. Andrew Symonds tried his best by scoring 29 off 13 deliveries, but it didn’t prove enough as Ponting XI won the game by 1 run. After the conclusion of the game, Cricket Australia confirmed that the contest raised over USD 7.7 million funds for the victims. Moreover, Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland also bowled to Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar during the mid-innings break.
