England’s Test captain Joe Root denied the suggestions that Jofra Archer is over bowled in his recent interview. The English quick-bowler is ruled out of the Sri Lanka tour and potentially the whole Indian Premier League (IPL) season courtesy a stress fracture in the right elbow. The fast bowler, who was England’s leading wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, has a whirlwind start to his career.
He has been a phenomenal prospect for England in the fast bowling department ever since his debut. The critics feel that Archer’s injury woes are the result of the added pressure on him, however; England’s Test captain denied the opinions and said, "I wouldn't say he's been over bowled”.
"You look at the amount of cricket he's played before he played for England, he's played a huge amount, and he came into international cricket and took the world by storm. He's had a phenomenal start on the international stage and should be extremely proud of what he has achieved already in his short career”- he added.
Jofra Archer featured in the first Test match against South Africa where he picked up his 3rd five-wicket haul. After that, he was rested due to soreness in the elbow which later turned out to be a stress fracture. The Caribbean-based fast bowler will undergo a recovery period which will halt his Sri Lanka tour and IPL in the next two months.
