England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid rules himself out of Sri Lanka’s tour for Test matches as he feels that it will be “unfair” for him to declare himself available for the selection without earning his place in the County cricket. The right-arm wrist spinner has not played a Test game since 2018 and he is yet to sign a contract with the Yorkshire county cricket club.
"I don't think I would [make myself available] at this moment in time. For me to get into Test cricket, I've got to earn that right and deserve my place. For me to get Test cricket, I've got to go back into County cricket, perform, do well, and then get selected”, Rashid talked to a news network.
Rashid’s chances of selection for the Sri Lankan tour now looks vague following his comments, therefore, England might go with Jack Leech and Dom Bess as the frontline spin options. With Moeen Ali still indecisive about his Test selection’s decision, Liam Dawson might join England as a 3rd spinner.
