England National team selectors have named the 16-man squad for the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka. The wicket-keeper batsman Ben Foakes and the top-order batsman Keaton Jennings have been recalled to the National side. Jennings, who is yet to mark a solid stature in the longest format of the game, is given another chance by the selectors.
England’s seam bowler James Anderson, who is recovering from an injury, is left out of the side. Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali also missed out on their trip to Sri Lanka. The speculations were revolving around Moeen’s decision of making a comeback in the Test cricket, however; it is now clear that the all-rounder still wants some break from the Test cricket.
Jack Leach and Dom Bess will fulfill the spin duties of the English side on the turning wickets of Galle. The relatively young side will face Sri Lanka in the 2-match Test series starting from 19 March 2020.
Squad: Joe Root, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Ben Foakes, Keaton Jennings, Jack Leach, Matt Parkinson, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood.
