Jasprit Bumrah’s ordinary run in ODI cricket since his comeback from a stress fracture has resulted in his demotion to the second spot in the updated rankings for bowlers in the 50-over format. Bumrah, rated as India’s strike bowler, has went wicketless on five occasions out of his last six ODI appearances.
His loss of wicket-taking precision has been cited as the main reason for India’s whitewash at the hands of New Zealand in the recently completed ODI series. Following Bumrah’s major dip in form, New Zealand’s Trent Boult has reclaimed the top position in the ODI rankings for bowlers.
The left-arm speedster himself has been out of action owing to an injury he sustained during the Test series in Australia. Although his last ODI appearance was in the World Cup final against England last year, he once sits atop the perch among bowlers.
