The crowd at the East London came to life as South Africa and England contested in an incredible game during the 1st T20I match. Lungi Ngidi held his nerves and defended 7 runs in the last over of the game. Batting first, South Africa got off to a flyer before England’s bowlers made a good comeback and restricted South Africa to a total of 177 runs, Bavuma was the highest scorer with 43 runs.
In reply, England showed some brutal power at the top of the order when Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow took the charge on the Proteas bowlers. Bairstow and Buttler had a short stay on crease but Roy played exceptionally well for his 70 runs. England was cruising towards the victory when Eoin Morgan was batting. The dismissal of Eoin Morgan on the final bowl of the penultimate over brought South Africa right back into the game.
Ngidi bowled a splendid last over and did not allow England to make 7 runs and at the end the visitors fell short by 1 run. South Africa takes a 1-0 lead up in the series with the 2nd game to be played at Durban.
