David Warner and Steve Smith are all set to return to South Africa for the first time since their involvement in the ignominious ball-tampering scandal. They are part of the Australia squad that will clash against South Africa across several white-ball fixtures.
Although Warner and Smith have made a successful comeback to the international arena following the expiry of their respective bans from the game, they have often been greeted to hostile crowds whenever they engage in cricket action. Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood believes Smith and Warner will only be spurred to perform more consistently in the face of bitterness from the South African fans.
“They probably play better when it's like this, probably try and take as much heat as they can and keep the younger guys out of the spotlight. It's nothing we haven't experienced before; it's quite a long time ago now and a lot of different players from that Test team,” the right-arm paceman told reporters.
