Almost 11 years since the gruesome terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore, Kumar Sangakkara is back in the metropolitan city to take part in the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) tour of Pakistan. Now serving as the president of the MCC, Sangakkara has said he is determined to help Pakistan host more top-flight games in the future.
The MCC will contest three 20-over games and one 50-over match in Lahore with Sangakkara adamant on reinforcing the reputation of Pakistan being a safe place for international players to come and play cricket here. The former Sri Lanka skipper stated he is trying his level best to convince players from other countries to recognize Pakistan as one of the ‘finest cricketing destinations’ in the world.
"Sri Lanka was one of the first teams to come back and play Test cricket here. And as a fellow Sri Lankan and also as the president of the MCC and a part of this tour, I'm so happy that we're able to do our part to try and encourage countries to look at Pakistan as one of the best cricketing destinations,” he said after arriving in Lahore.
