Shubman Gill, the latest batting sensation of India, made his name in the Under-19 cricket and looks close to receiving his first Test cap in the forthcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. Recently, he played against New Zealand A and recorded a stellar show with scores of 83, 204* and 136.
Reviewing all this, Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh came forward to demand a Test debut for the batting star in the Wellington Test. While India is stuck between picking Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill for the first Test, the off-spinner clearly showed his support for the young batting sensation.
Explaining his pick, the 39-year old said that Gill has been with India for some time and knows what he needs to do. Moreover, his rich form has further strengthened his case in the eyes of Harbhajan as India looks to continue their supremacy in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.
Having scored 2133 first-class runs, the 20-year old possesses a batting average of 73.55. Doing so, he mustered 7 centuries and 10 half-centuries in 34 innings to make his prowess known to all. It remains to be seen if India hands him a Test debut on February 21.
