Akhtar takes a trip down memory lane to iconic IPL spell

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar figures among the fastest bowlers ever to play the game. The Rawalpindi Express built an intimidating aura around his bowling with opposition batters often cowering for protection from his thunderbolts.

Akhtar’s consistent heroics with the ball made a huge impression in world cricket with his excellence also leaving an impact in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Although he played only three games Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2008, Akhtar delivered one of the finest spells in the tournament’s history when he picked up four wickets in three overs and gave away just 11 runs in a crucial match against Delhi Daredevils.

Recalling his iconic spell of bowling, Akhtar shared the immense rush of emotions during that moment and talked about how the team’s owner and Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan hugged him to celebrate KKR’s 23-run win courtesy of his stupendous bowling.

“When I took 4 wickets, everyone went mad. Even Shah Rukh was running all over the ground, he went mad and was delirious. I thought ‘did I win the World Cup?’ such was the frenzy all around. Shah Rukh said you have won a very big match for us,” he narrated.
