Before the start of the highly admired Pakistan Super League (PSL), the fans of Pakistan witnessed a taste of competitive cricket as Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) battled Lahore Qalandars in a T20 match. While a slow pitch was a mood spoiler, both teams still managed to provide enough entertainment to the cricket crazy nation by contesting a close encounter.
Getting invited to bat first, Lahore was able to score only 136 runs. Fakhar Zaman top scored with 45 runs while skipper Sohail Akhtar also played a quick-fire knock of 40 runs. From MCC, all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe claimed 2 wickets by conceding only 17 runs.
In response, MCC looked in pressure right from the start and looked in trouble at the halfway mark. However, English all-rounders Ravi Bopara and Samit Patel mustered 42 and 31 runs respectively to take MCC over the mark. Hence, MCC started the tour of Pakistan with an impressive win.
However, the game was never about winning or losing as Lahore fielded most of their Player Development Program (PDP) players to give them a taste of competitive cricket. On a crazy night, fans turned out in impressive numbers to swell the charm of the moment and welcome the MCC team in an iconic fashion.
