After getting thumped in the three-match ODI series, India is hopeful to record a better show in the Test series. Ahead of the two-game series, the squad got strengthened by the fact that veteran paceman Ishant Sharma has been declared fit for the Wellington Test.
Suffering an ankle injury during Delhi’s Ranji Trophy game against Vidarbha, the tall fellow was advised rest for 6 weeks. This created doubts over his participation in the New Zealand Tests. Nevertheless, he followed his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy and now remains available for selection for the series commencing from February 21.
Claiming 292 wickets in 96 Tests, the 31-year old is all set to join the 300 wickets Test club soon. The forthcoming Test series is part of ICC World Test Championship where India currently sits on the top spot while New Zealand is on fourth position. Ishant will join hands with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini to form a sturdy pace department for the men in blue.
