The owners of Kings XI Punjab have acquired the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team St Lucia Zouks. This marks the second instance of a set of Indian Premier League (IPL) affiliated owners running a CPL franchise since the Kolkata Knight Riders’ owners control the Trinbago Knight Riders.
In the past, there have also been links between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Barbados Tridents. St Lucia Zouks have been one of the most underperforming sides in the history of the tournament as they have never managed a CPL title. They finished fifth out of the six teams in the last season under the captaincy of Darren Sammy.
"We are excited at the opportunity to invest in one of the most exciting sporting tournaments in the world, and we have been impressed by the vibrancy of CPL over the last seven years,” one of the Zouks’ new co-owners was quoted as saying.
