Islamabad United’s pursuit of a third Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy has been plagued with the absence of Dale Steyn for the first week of the fifth season’s fixtures. The veteran Proteas seamer has been included in South Africa’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Australia scheduled to commence on February 21.
The last of the three T20Is will take place on February 26, rendering Steyn unavailable for Islamabad United’s first three matches in PSL 5. Steyn had earlier communicated his willingness to participate the full season of the PSL but national duty means he will miss the matches against Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars.
The absence of Steyn will prove to be a hurdle for the two-time PSL winners since United lack experience in the pace bowling department. Faheem Ashraf, Musa Khan and Rumman Raees are expected to fulfill the fast bowling services.
