Kumar Sangakkara ranks as one of the greatest batsmen ever to play the game. Currently serving as the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) president, Sangakkara accompanied a squad comprising top players on a tour of Pakistan for three T20s and one 50-over fixtures.
Sangakkara’s humbling gesture to lead the MCC contingent on yet another trip to Pakistan to speed up the process of the resumption of top-flight cricket in the country has garnered a lot of praise. His efforts were lauded in a sentimental tweet penned by incumbent Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis, who thanked Sangakkara for being such a good friend to the nation in its time of need.
Waqar was awestruck by the former Sri Lankan skipper’s compassionate character and giving a helping hand in difficult times. In reply, Sangakkara commented on the overwhelming reception he was being greeted to in Pakistan with hordes of fans flocking to see him in action.
