For the forthcoming edition of the highly valued Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars continued the tradition of surprising their fans. In the drafts, owner Fawad Rana announced the appointment of the hard-hitting batsman Sohail Akhtar as the leader of the pack.
The decision attracted backlash as fans believe that the move isn’t backed by any research and logic. However, Qalandars backed their appointment as they feel that Sohail is the right man to lead Lahore in PSL 2020.
Recently, Sohail was found reflecting on this discussion. The 33-year old said that leading the development team in Australia and then in the Abu Dhabi Cup made him realize that the franchise was grooming him for their leadership framework. He added that he isn’t nervous about the fact that he will only be one of the two PSL skippers who have never represented Pakistan in T20Is.
Highlighting the support Lahore’s management provided, Sohail revealed that he is confident to shine both as a player and a skipper in Pakistan’s T20 extravaganza. Having scored 1067 runs in 52 T20s at a strike rate of 131.89, Sohail will roll into action on February 21 in Lahore’s opening fixture against Multan Sultans.
